A MAN has been further remanded into custody for allegedly setting three cars on fire in Riffa.
The suspected arson attack on Monday gutted the vehicles and caused substantial damaged to two homes in a two-storey property near the parked cars in the Hajiyat area.
The suspect admitted to the crime during questioning by the Public Prosecution yesterday.
“The defendant was shown video footage of the crime taken by a security camera belonging to one of the homes near the incident,” read a prosecution statement yesterday.
“Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect who has a criminal record.”
Authorities previously said they suspected foul play in the incident but denied claims on social media that the vehicles belonged to any Interior Ministry employee.
Following the blaze, residents were evacuated from their homes with at least one requiring medical treatment for injuries sustained in the fire.
Four fire engines and 16 Civil Defence personnel were deployed to douse the flames.
