An Egyptian court has officially confirmed the death penalty for a man who brutally murdered a female university student in the city of Mansoura.
The Mansoura Criminal Court sentenced Mohamed Adel to death last week after he pleaded guilty to killing Nayera Ashraf.
The case was then referred to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, the country’s highest authority on Islamic law, who granted the approval for the execution orders.
Millions of Egyptians have been following the case since graphic videos of Nayera’s murder on a busy street in Mansoura were widely shared on social media.
