THE ongoing efforts to successfully implement the annual summer midday work ban got me thinking about the increasing stray animal population that is struggling ‘voiceless’ in this heat and harsh living conditions.
We all know that the summer work ban aims to protect workers at outdoor worksites from heat-related illnesses and occupational injuries that may occur during the months of July and August.
But, there are animals (that never chose to be born) living in these conditions with no food, no shelter and, most importantly, no water.
The least we can do, as Muslims in a Muslim country, and as compassionate human beings, is to set out water bowls in shaded areas for these animals to hydrate during these hot unbearable months.
I’m not saying invite the animals – dogs, cats or birds – into your own houses because I do understand that some people may not like animals and that is fine.
All I’m saying is, find the human being within yourself and set out a bowl of water on the sidewalk, in open land spaces and shaded areas and believe me the good karma will find its way back to you for helping out a defenceless and voiceless creature bear with the harsh climate.
It really doesn’t take much and it means a lot to the voiceless.
