A DRUG dealer nicknamed ‘Big Boy’ who is accused of selling marijuana allegedly bit a policeman in an attempt to evade arrest.
The 39-year-old Ghanaian is standing trial at the High Criminal Court in connection with selling narcotics and assaulting the officer.
A 44-year-old Filipino man is also accused of drug dealing in the same case.
Authorities received information about the Filipino defendant selling drugs, before he allegedly agreed to sell BD60 worth of marijuana to an undercover agent in Gudaibiya in May.
He was apprehended, the court heard, and led the authorities to his accomplice, who he claimed was the supplier.
The alleged drug dealer was then arrested when he agreed to sell BD50 worth of drugs to his accomplice in Adliya and during a struggle ‘Big Boy’ allegedly turned out to be a bad boy too when an officer was heard screaming: ‘He bit me, he bit me’, the court heard.
“Secret sources provided us with information about a man (Filipino defendant) selling narcotics,” a detective told prosecutors.
“We then arrested him and he led us to his co-defendant, who he said was his drug dealer.
“The Ghanaian defendant, who is nicknamed ‘Big Boy’, was then arrested in another sting operation. When he realised that he had been set up he kicked out at officers and bit one in an attempt to evade arrest.
“He was resisting arrest in a very violent way but we managed to get him under our control.”
The trial has been adjourned until July 17 for review.
