In a video posted to Instagram, actor Alec Baldwin called Heche ‘an amazingly talented woman’ as he asked his fans to send their ‘support and love’ to the 53-year-old actress who is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
But many took Baldwin to task over his support, with Instagram user LisaDoo50 among those who replied: ‘What about the people she almost killed? Is she more important?’
Heche is in a ‘stable’ condition following the crash in Los Angeles that saw her car burst into flames, Sky News quoted her spokesperson has said.
Reports have suggested she had been driving at speed down a street in the US city before crashing her car into a building.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash in the Mar Vista area of the city sparked a ‘heavy fire’, which was later put out after an hour. Crews took the driver to hospital with ‘critical injuries’.
Heche’s spokesperson appears to have confirmed it was her in the incident, saying: “Anne is currently in a stable condition. Her family and friends ask for your thoughts and prayers and to respect her privacy during this difficult time.”
The next door neighbour of the home which was hit, who was first on the scene at the incident, told Fox News: “I saw a car speeding by in front of my house and a few moments later I heard a crash.
“(The car) went all the way through the house to the back of the house.
“The windows were broken, so I opened the back door of the car.”
“She finally answered and said she was not okay, so that was tough.”
“I know they didn’t get her out of the car until the fire was pretty much put out.”
The neighbour added he helped the person leave the home after the collision.
Heche is known for her roles in films including Psycho, Donnie Brasco and Cedar Rapids.
Daily Mail reported Baldwin as saying in his post: “There’s not a lot of women I’ve worked with that are brave in the way that Anne is brave.”
Peter Facinelli, Heche’s costar in 2021’s 13 Minutes, also shared a picture of the two of them on his Instagram Story captioned: ‘Praying for you and your beautiful family.’
And actress Rosanna Arquette tweeted: ‘Anne Heche is in the hospital severely burned from a car accident. ‘This is really tragic,’ Arquette wrote. ‘Pray for her.’
But others online slammed Heche for smashing her car into a Mar Vista home at high speed, causing the home to burn down.
She had earlier been pictured with what appeared to be a bottle of vodka in the cupholder of her Mini Clubman, and had spoken about drinking vodka with wine chasers in an episode of her podcast that was released hours before the crash.
