Two ex-convicts are on trial at the High Criminal Court for allegedly abducting a car washer off the street and stealing BD500 from his wallet.
The two Bahraini men – both with prior convictions – have been accused of unlawfully depriving the expatriate worker of his freedom and robbing him of cash.
“On the day of the incident, the defendants approached me in a white car and the passenger stepped out, claiming to be a police officer,” the alleged victim testified.
“He grabbed my hand, dragged me towards the vehicle and forced me inside.
“Once the car started moving, they told me they were taking me to the police station and took my phone.
“The passenger then demanded the money I had on me and immediately reached into my trouser pocket, taking my wallet.
“He handed it to the driver, who removed the cash inside, amounting to BD500.
“They later dropped me off in Hoora and returned my phone.”
Police launched an investigation after receiving a report from the Asian victim and subsequently obtained security camera footage of the July incident.
A police officer assigned to the case told the court that footage recorded at 2.43am on July 25 showed the car washer standing outside an apartment building.
The footage showed the defendants’ vehicle arriving two minutes later and both men forcing the complainant into the car, with the driver also getting out to assist his alleged accomplice.
Further investigations led to the identification of the suspects, aged 46 and 32, both of whom have previous criminal records.
The 32-year-old, who was arrested first, was found to be driving a vehicle registered in his mother’s name.
Investigators said both defendants admitted the charges, while the 46-year-old allegedly stated that he acted on the instructions of his co-defendant.
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday for defence arguments.
