Austin Bellamy has woken up from a week-long coma after he was stung more than 20,000 times by African killer bees.
The 20-year-old was stung last week after he accidentally cut into a hive while trimming a lemon tree. The hive attacked Bellamy, stinging him more than 20,000 times and he also swallowed 30 of the bees.
Bellamy's mother, Shawna Carter, witnessed the incident and said that her son was covered head to toe by bees.
“It looked like he had a black blanket on his head down to his neck, down to his arms,” she said.
Bellamy's grandmother and uncle also witnessed the attack, but couldn't intervene or help him because the bees also started attacking them.
Firefighters eventually were able to rescue Bellamy and clear off all the bees. He was then airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre, where he was put on a ventilator and placed in a medically-induced coma.
According to a gofundme campaign set up by Bellamy's mother, he has woken up from the coma and is doing better.
