CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team rider Seth Dunwoody climbed the podium yesterday as runner-up in the opening stage of the Turul Ciclist al Romaniei 2025, being held in Romania.
Dunwoody completed the 175-kilometre leg right behind winner Maximilian Schmidbauer of WSA KTM Graz.
They were part of a large group of competitors that made a sprint to the finish.
Dunwoody’s result put him in second place in the race’s general classification (GC) after the first of five stages.
The Irishman also took the leader’s jerseys in three of the event’s other categories, including in the points, the King of the
Mountains (KoM), and the best young rider standings.
Dunwoody boasts 32 points – seven ahead of Schmidbauer – in the points’ rankings and he has 12 points in the KoM standings, where he is four ahead of Manuel Oioli of MBH Bank Balla CSB.
Dunwoody leads the best young rider ranks by six seconds from Valery Shtin of Area Zero Caffe Mokambo.
Amongst the other Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders in yesterday’s stage, Yoshiki Terada from Japan was 21st, Italian Thomas Capra was 38th, his countryman Leonardo Consolidani was 60th, Bahraini Ahmed Naser finished 78th, and Italian Marco Andreaus came 85th.
The men’s road race is scheduled to continue today with the second stage, covering 172km.
