Enhancing joint action with friendly and brotherly countries is a priority for Bahrain’s parliamentary diplomacy, in line with the policies adopted by His Majesty King Hamad, says Fouzia Zainal.
The Parliament Speaker, who headed Bahrain’s delegation to the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament (14SWSP) in in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, pointed out that the Bahraini parliamentary efforts aimed at raising the level of partnership with friendly countries are consistent with the role of the kingdom’s foreign diplomacy, whose balanced policy is implemented by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
She stressing the importance of parliamentary co-ordination in facing the challenges and crises facing countries and peoples.
Ms Zainal made the statements while holding meetings with her counterparts from Indonesia, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Montenegro and Spain, on the sidelines of their participation in the 14SWSP, convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in close co-operation with the Senate of the Parliament of Uzbekistan.
During the meetings, she stressed the importance of using parliamentary diplomacy to enhance co-operation in the economic and investment sectors.
She affirmed that the kingdom is a strategic financial hub in the region, with an advanced investment atmosphere and multiple facilities for investors.
The Parliament Speaker also highlighted the progress currently witnessed by the kingdom in the fields of education, health and human rights.
The summit provides women in the highest decision-making positions of parliament a forum in which to exchange ideas and experiences that are of interest to their national and international agendas.
It is open to women Speakers of national parliaments as well as to women Presidents of regional and international parliamentary assemblies that are associate members of the IPU. Selected special guests will also be invited to attend the aummit.
