A WOMAN who has blazed the trail as the first female Bahraini expert in car body and paint in Bahrain and the GCC filed her nomination last night for a councillor seat in the upcoming National Elections.
Zahra Rahimi, who was highlighted by the Supreme Council for Women as a trailblazer in the field from 2017 to 2019 while marking Bahraini Women’s Day, is contesting from the Northern Governorate constituency nine (Hamad Town West).
The 37-year-old mechanic at a leading car agency body and paint workshop said her priority was to ensure people had easy access to public services.
Skills
“I have been thinking about running for a council seat, I do have the ability and skills and by being a representative of the people, I will be able to help them better and address their needs,” Ms Rahimi told the GDN after filing her nomination at the Yathrib Intermediate School for Girls in Hamad Town, the supervisory centre for the Northern Governorate.
“My priority is to ensure easy accessibility to public services, especially for the elderly and the challenged, women and children,” she said.
Ms Rahimi owns several sports cars including Audis, Chevrolet Camaros and BMWs with racing engines.
Ms Rahimi from Manama grew up in an automobile-obsessed household. She was supported by a father who taught her all about car repair and a mother who owned three garages on the island in the early 80s.
Although armed with the tools and knowledge to join the motoring field, many tried to throw a wrench in her plans because ‘it wasn’t deemed acceptable for women to work in a garage’.
However, that did not stop her from following her dreams and she hopes to inspire more women to follow suit.
Driven and determined, Ms Rahimi – who is also a former TV presenter, writer and poet – believes in her capability to help educate other women.
“You need to be focused and I am sure women can do what they believe in,” she added.
