DRUGS worth an estimated $48 million were seized from a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Oman by a US warship.
The haul, which included 5,000kg of hashish and 800kg of methamphetamine, was found on the boat intercepted by the USCGC Glen Harris on Monday.
The US Coast Guard fast response cutter operates in regional waters in support of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 currently led by the Royal Saudi Navy.
The task force is part of Bahrain-based Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), the world’s largest multinational naval partnership.
The warship had interdicted another fishing vessel last month in the same area and seized 2,980kg of hashish and 320kg of amphetamine tablets worth $20m.
USCGC Glen Harris, which arrived in the Middle East in January, was also instrumental in two other seizures of heroin, methamphetamine and amphetamine pills worth $28m in May.
