Cairo: Lebanese singer Wael Jassar was released from detention in Cairo International Airport, Egypt. The singer was detained in Cairo for attempting to leave the country with a bag containing US$54,000.
Under Egyptian law, a passenger is allowed to carry SR10,000 or an equivalent sum in other foreign currencies.
The singer was arrested by airport authorities as he was clearing customs procedures to fly to Beirut on Middle East Airlines Flight 305.
He was released by the public prosecution after they confiscated US$44,000 from him, which was deemed illegal.
