I WOULD like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the public servants, from the various sections of the police force and fire service in this country, who nobly stepped out into the pouring rain to help guide traffic on treacherous roads and flooded streets.
I was marooned in a mall in Riffa when one of the heavy sudden storms suddenly struck. I parked my car outside in a designated bay and within moments there was a stream that soon turned into a river, created between the mall entrances and the vehicles belonging to shoppers.
There was nothing else to do but roll up my suit trousers, place my shoes and socks in the bag alongside my groceries and paddle across the road praying no other car would drive past and cause a tidal wave.
What seemed weird was that the excess water appeared to do down one drain and swoop up the next adding to the speed of the river.
One clever lady managed to hitch a lift from a driver who had sensibly parked in the covered car park section to take her across the torrent in style. I think my knobbly knees put him off offering me a ride too.
