A PRISON guard, jailed for 10 years for accepting bribes from two inmates who used him to smuggle electronics into Bahrain’s main prison, has lost his final appeal.
The defendant was found guilty of bribery by the High Criminal Court in February last year and the Bahraini inmates were jailed for seven years each.
They also lodged appeals against their convictions at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, in September, which were rejected.
A final appeal to the Cassation Court on Tuesday upheld their sentences and fines of BD2,000 each.
The inmates left electronic items and money in dead-drops for the prison guard to collect with the help of unknown accomplices.
He then helped smuggle the items into Jaw Prison in return for the cash.
“The defendants were found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against them,” read the final appeal ruling. “They smuggled into prison electronic items with the help of the prison guard.
“They gave him several bribes and sent him to collect the money and the items from dead-drops around the country.”
