A WORKSHOP for administrators, paramedics and cooks of the official Haj campaigns was organised by the Health Ministry under the slogan, ‘We take care of your health to complete your Haj’.
The event was held at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa yesterday and attended by officials from the Health, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Interior ministries.
The workshop included a number of lectures focused on the role of the medical staff in the Haj campaigns, how to deal with cases of hypoglycaemia, diabetic foot, high blood pressure and heart attack.
It also focused on ways to store medicines and insulin needles during the pilgrimage season, infectious diseases and vaccinations, as well as dealing with cases of heat exhaustion, sunstroke, and joint pain during the pilgrimage.
Also, it shed light on food safety during Haj in terms of preservation, preparation, and transportation for cooks and kitchen workers attached to Haj operators.
“The Health Ministry has put all its capabilities to provide the best health and treatment services to pilgrims from Bahrain before and during their travel,” said Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea.
“We provide health care and preventive vaccinations to those wishing to perform the Haj, as well as work to raise their level of health awareness through dedicated programmes,” he added.
“A medical committee has been formed within the Bahrain Haj Mission which will provide health care and treatment services needed by the pilgrims at various holy places.
“The objectives of the workshop are to raise the efficiency of the medical teams in Haj caravans, and to enable them to perform their duties to the fullest extent, as well as to emphasise the continuation of co-operation and joint work for a common goal to preserve the health and safety of the pilgrims so that they can perform the rituals and return safe and sound.”
He urged pilgrims to visit health centres in their area of residence to conduct the necessary medical examinations and take vaccinations for the pilgrimage season, to preserve their health and safety and protect them from infectious diseases.
Present were Bahrain Haj Mission chairman Shaikh Adnan Al Qattan and mission secretary-general Khalid Al Maloud.
Shaikh Al Qattan thanked the leadership for its unlimited support for the Haj mission, and for its wise directives in order to provide comprehensive care and attention to every pilgrim, pointing out that these directives represent an opportunity to exert more effort in serving pilgrims.
Haj Medical Mission co-ordinating committee chairman Dr Ibrahim Obaid said programmes and activities aimed at raising the level of health awareness for those wishing to perform the rituals of Haj were set to continue.
