A WOMAN has been found guilty of hitting police officers with a wooden stick, cursing at them in Hindi and leaving scratch marks on their faces.
The High Criminal Court sentenced the 53-year-old Bahraini to three years in jail for assaulting, disrespecting and publicly hurling vulgarities at three policewomen.
The housewife was arrested following an incident at the women’s prison in Isa Town during which she refused to co-operate with the police and resisted arrest.
“I went to the defendant’s cell with two other officers asking her to leave, but she refused and threatened to beat us with a stick,” said a policewoman.
She added that despite being pepper-sprayed, the defendant continued to resist arrest, cursed at her in a foreign language and scratched her face, with a medical report showing that she had multiple scratches around her nose.
Another officer said that the defendant kicked her while she was trying to handcuff her.
Interior Ministry records show that the defendant has a long criminal history.
