The newly released Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer 'Adipurush' has made a solid showing at the box office over the weekend, pulling in over Rs340 crores (BD15 million).
The Om Raut directed film, is an adaptation of the epic Ramayana. The makers of the film announced that after three days, the film had pulled in over Rs 340 crores in worldwide box office revenue, off an estimated budget of over Rs 550 crores.
Adipurush has had a rocky route to the theatres, after audiences criticised the first look trailer when it was released in October 2022. Viewers called out the odd anachronistic hairstyles, the cartoon-like VFX, and the apparent introduction of a dragon in the movie.
After the backlash, the makers decided to delay the movie's release to further work on the VFX. But if reviews are to be believed, the VFX hasn't improved much. Memes mocking the movie have flooded the internet and police cases have been filed since the film came out.
But none of this seems to be stopping the general audience from heading to the theatre for one of the most expensive Indian movies ever.
