Driving through the streets of Bahrain, I have noticed an increase in the number of pets being dumped.
And I know they are pets because Huskies and Shih-Tzus aren’t native stray breeds.
What I think people fail to understand is that pets are a life-long commitment, and throwing them out in the street – because they’ve lost their novelty, or you cannot afford to care for them anymore, or you’re just bored – is simply cruel, reckless and shameless.
The streets of Bahrain are already flooded with a growing stray dog population which is only being worsened by the irresponsible actions of pet owners who just dump these helpless animals without food or water.
Shelters are overflowing with abandoned animals and volunteers are struggling to keep up with the increasing numbers while many are getting killed in the streets.
The bottom line is, if you cannot commit to a pet for life, then simply don’t get one.
