Registrations are set to open for the long-awaited Bahrain’s Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship.
Athletes from around the world will be arriving in the kingdom for one of the biggest sporting events in the region, to be held on December 8.
The organisers announced on social media that they will start registration on Monday, starting 4pm, for the seventh edition of the championship.
“Those emotions are coming back alive on December 8, 2023,” said the post.
The event features a 90km cycling race, a 21.1km running challenge and a 1.9km swimming race at different locations across the country.
Partial road closures on race day is expected while the event is underway.
According to the updated details and programmes on the official website yesterday, the one-loop 1.9km swim course starts at The Reef Island, in which athletes follow a rectangular “L” shaped swim layout that leads along a series of left turns and back to the lagoon’s bank before they head into transition.

According to a tentative agenda posted on the official website, the event starts with registration, a Press conference and an official opening ceremony to be held at The Reef Island on December 6.
The following day will feature swim practice sessions and bike check-in along with other activities at the same venue.
Similar to last year, this year’s race will feature “IRONKIDS” that is expected to have a large participation of children aged below 17 in the running race.
In the last race, a total of 1,061 triathletes of both genders, representing 77 countries competed.
Vincent Luis stormed to victory in the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain last year representing Bahrain Victorious 13.
In the last race, the Victorious-KHK team was led by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who affirmed the kingdom’s rich record of achievements in hosting mega global sports events thanks to its qualified competencies and organisational skills.
