Major projects have been lined up to boost Bahrain’s infrastructure and reinvigorate the national economy.
Twenty-seven tenders worth BD24.303 million were awarded to contractors during the second quarter of this year.
Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj said the tenders were part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the infrastructure and develop services and facilities, which will further boost the national economy.
The road development sector had the lion’s share with 12 projects awarded to contractors for BD15.385m. The projects would ease traffic flow, support the transportation sector and increase the capacity of the roads network in Bahrain, Mr Al Hawaj said.
It includes the development of the Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa Highway and maintenance of the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Causeway, in addition to revamping the inner roads in Sitra.
The Tender Board has also awarded nine projects in the sanitary drainage sector for BD8.422m during the same period. These are set to benefit residents of East Sitra, Hamad Town and Buri.
Four construction projects including technical services for the Karzakan beachfront and walkway are estimated to cost BD398,000.
Meanwhile, bidders were invited to vie for 33 tenders during the same period, costing around BD80m. These include 17 projects in the roads sector, seven in the sanitation sector, six building maintenance projects and three technical service schemes.
