THE Indian Club is inviting entries for its annual Onam celebration taking place at its premises in Manama next month.
‘Onam Fest 2023’ is a week-long celebration, with cultural entertainment, traditional sports and competitions for the entire family.
The club’s executive committee announced, at a Press conference at the club’s premises in Manama yesterday, a week-long programme to celebrate Onam Fest 2023 featuring a number of cultural entertainment, traditional sports and competitions.
The event, which will be officially inaugurated on September 11 at 7.30pm, will be followed by the Onapudava (traditional Onam costume) competition.
A payasam competition will be held on September 12, followed by Natyolsavam 2023 (performed by professional dancers from Bahrain) and naadan pattu, starting from 7.30pm.
Onachanda (traditional Onam market), Thiruvathira (traditional Onam dance by ladies) competition and a performance by folk music and fusion band Aaravam Bahrain, will take place on September 14, from 7.30pm.
The Pookalam (floral display) competition will be held on September 15 at 10am, followed by ‘tug of war’, Ghoshayatra (procession of various social organisations, depicting traditional folklore and costumes of different parts of Kerala) and a musical night by Roshan, Arun Gopan and Kirthika and Team.
Onasadhya (traditional Onam feast) will be served to 2,500 people on September 29.
Twenty-nine items will be prepared at the club’s premises and served on a banana leaf to patrons, members and invited guests.
The last days to register for the various competitions are September 7 for the Onapudava, Payasam and Thiruvathira competitions and September 10 for Pookalam, tug of war and Ghoshayatra.
