Acclaimed Arab and international artists will be taking music lovers on a melodic journey during the popular Bahrain International Music Festival that kicks off next month.
The 32nd edition is being organised from October 1 to 20 by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) at different venues across the island.
“This year’s programme would be even more extensive, with folk music and bands from the GCC and honorary guests from Jordan and Morocco showcasing their talents,” said Baca director of culture and arts Farah Mattar.
“We look forward to seeing full houses at the concerts this year as we’ve seen busy ticket sales for the events at the National Theatre, while concerts at the Cultural Hall and other sites are open to the public free of charge.”
The performances will start on October 1 with the Bahrain Philharmonic orchestra, led by maestro Dr Mubarak Najem, putting on a classical evening with A Night in Vienna. The show will start at 8pm and is open to those aged eight and above at the National Theatre.
On October 4, there will be a tribute to musician Ennio Morricone, considered one of the most important music composers of the 20th century, at the Cultural Hall at 8pm. The troupe will perform some of the most famous musical compositions created for American Western films, such as Once Upon a Time in the West, A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as well as music from the films The Mission and Cinema Paradiso.
The Saudi National Orchestra and choir will entertain on October 6 at the National Theatre at 8pm. The team will perform a selection of heritage and taarab songs, as well as individual musical pieces and various forms of local folk arts such as Al Samri, Al Khutwa, Al Khbayti, and Al Yanbu’awi.
The Jordanian Nai Ensemble, which aims to restore the status of the nai, considered one of the oldest musical instruments in Arab culture, will perform at the Cultural Hall on October 7 at 8pm.
On October 10, the Moroccan Al Isawiyya Folklore Society Ensemble led by Hajj Saeed Al Kisi will perform at the Cultural Hall, at 8pm. They will present Sufi musical creations that reflect the richness of Moroccan folk heritage.
Other performances will include groups and troupes from China, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, Germany and India.
