Stunning contemporary artwork will be highlighted as part of plans to promote an annual calendar being sold to support a Bahraini museum dedicated to preserving ancient Islamic texts.
The Beit Al Quran Calendar for 2024 will feature 12 rarely seen modern paintings by Bahraini and international artists from Dr Abdullatif Kanoo’s prestigious collection.
“I hope that by publishing these works, the calendar will help bring recognition to the many talented artists from Bahrain and abroad,” said Beit Al Quran director Ashraf Al Ansari.
“Dr Kanoo has generously permitted the use of art from his collection in order to showcase the artists’ works and help them make a name for themselves.”
As it does every year, the calendar addresses important topics that present various aspects of Islamic civilisations, heritage and art.
Its annual publication is highly anticipated by not only members of the public, but also private and government organisations and companies who have supported the Islamic cultural institution by participating in the project.
Dr Kanoo, who has an extensive collection on display at the museum, built the facility in 1990 to help teach the Quran, collect and preserve rare Islamic scripts and to support Islamic studies.
The museum is currently divided into five key segments – the Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa Lecture Hall, the Abdulrahman Jassim Kanoo Mosque, Al Forqan Library, the Yousif Bin Ahmed Kanoo School for Quranic Studies and Al Hayat Museum.
Dr Al Ansari has expressed gratitude and appreciation to Dr Kanoo for always supporting the centre. He also extended his thanks to all public and private organisations who have stepped forward to support the project again this year.
“Your support of this annual endeavour helps us maintain our institute so that we can continue offering services in the name of Islam and Islamic culture and heritage,” he added.
“We also hope that the design of the calendar meets expectations and makes for an attractive gift for promoting our products and services. Furthermore, I hope this ends up being another successful fundraiser for the museum so that we can provide more religious, cultural and heritage based programmes in the future.”
Beit Al Quran is open to visitors from Saturday and Thursday, from 8.30am to 1.30pm, Sunday to Wednesday from 8.30am to 4pm while being closed on Friday.
Two versions of the new calendar – a wall calendar and a desk calendar – along with greeting cards and postcards are available at Beit Al Quran.
