Ten nights of special cultural events have been announced as part of the popular Muharraq Nights festival by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca).
Running everyday between 5pm and 10pm from Thursday until December 23, this year’s festival will include musical events, children’s activities, art and craft workshops, festive markets and more in various venues across the Unesco World Heritage site of the Pearling Path.
“The Muharraq Nights festival returns at the Pearling Path for 10 consecutive days, in a celebration of art, design, fashion, crafts, music, food, activities and tours,” a Baca spokesperson said in a statement.
“The festival will take place across the historic neighbourhoods of the city, from the Pearling Path Visitors Centre to Siyadi Majlis in the north.”
Every evening at the Visitors Centre, there will be a number of local artists showcasing and selling their art pieces, alongside an exhibition paying homage to the historical economic heritage of pearling in Bahrain.
Camille Zakharia’s ‘And I Keep Demarcating’ exhibition will be taking place at the Memory of the Place – Bin Matar House throughout the festival.
Ahmed Mater’s art pieces will also be showcased at the House of Architectural Heritage every day in an exhibition titled ‘Ashab Al Lal’.
At the Jamsheer House, there will be an exhibition titled ‘Material and Conservation’ every day.
Al Riwaq Art Space is also organising a two-part exhibition, ‘I Wish I was a Dove on a Spar’, at Amarat Fakhro I and Block 209.
According to the Baca statement, there will also be public art along the Pearling Path during the festival.
On the design front, there will be a majlis from Friday to December 18 and from December 20 to 23 every evening at 7pm at the Jamsheer House.
A number of craft workshops in carpentry, swords, gypsum decorations and more will also take place on a daily basis. There are also a number of tours and special activities planned to help residents, citizens and visitors discover the Pearling Path.
There will be a treasure hunt on December 18 starting at Qal’at Bu Mahir from 3pm to 6pm.
The Dar Al Muharraq band will be conducting traditional Fjiri music workshops on December 18 and 23 from 7pm to 7.45pm.
The Rashid Al Khalifa Foundation’s The Art Station will be hosting Cinema Nights from Thursday to December 16 and from December 21 to 23 at the Muharraq Suq from 5pm to 10pm.
There will also be a ‘Preserving Inherited Artefacts Workshop’ on December 23 from 2pm to 5pm.
A number of concerts have also been planned, including Faisal Al Ansari on December 22 and Majaz on December 23, both taking place at Qal’at Bu Mahir at 8pm.
In addition, Dar Bin Harban Band will showcase their skills on December 18 and Qalali Folk Band on December 23, with both traditional bands slated to perform at Dar Al Muharraq at 8pm.
On Thursday and December 21 the Mohammed Bin Faris band will perform at their music hall, starting at 8pm.
The Sophia Bookstore will host Mohamed Murbati and Abdullah Al Saffar from 7.30pm to 9pm on Friday.
At the Archaeologies of Green building, Faisal Amin will perform pop and alternative music on Thursday and December 21, Ahmed Al Basri will serenade the crowd with contemporary music on Friday and December 18, and Mohammed Aseeri will perform on National Day.
Fawaz Al Shaikh will also be performing on December 17, 20 and 22 at the venue, with the Relocators taking the stage on December 19 and Ahmed Al Qasim, better known as AQ Jazz, performing a show on December 23.
There will also be a number of violin, oud and qanun performances throughout Block 209 during the festival.
