A MAJOR mainline waste water project site in Zinj was inspected by Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj accompanied by other ministry officials.
It is one of the most important projects in the sanitation sector in the country and comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to update and maintain infrastructure throughout every governorate.
It includes the construction of a main pipeline approximately 3.3 kilometres long, around 2,000mm in diameter and buried at a depth of nearly 20 metres.
The main sewage line will be connected to the Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant and is expected to provide services to a number of areas including Zinj, Bilad Al Qadeem, Tubli, Al Khamis, Bu Ghazal and Adhari.
During the inspection, Mr Al Hawaj was briefed on the progress of the project which is expected to reduce operational and maintenance costs.
It was also revealed that five underground pumping stations will be cancelled in a bid to achieve sustainability in the sector.

Deep drilling technology that is being used is also expected to improve the flow of traffic on the main road adjacent to the site.
“This project comes as part of the ministry’s desire to achieve sustainable development in the sanitation sector,” said Mr Al Hawaj at the site.
“It is a vital sector and its development will provide high-quality services to people across the kingdom in order to ensure a sound, healthy environment for citizens and residents alike.”
He also stressed the importance of adhering to occupational health and safety requirements at the project’s work sites and adhering to the timetable in implementing the project to inconvenience as few people as possible.
The ministry has called upon all citizens and residents in the area to co-operate with authorities and adhere to all traffic diversions during the duration of the project for their own safety.
