A probe could be launched into the effectiveness of administrative structures in ministries and government bodies, if MPs have their way.
A request for the probe was submitted by 10 MPs, led by Strategic Thinking Bloc president Ahmed Al Salloom, to Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam yesterday.
It will be scheduled for a vote at an upcoming session depending on the flow of legislation as seen fit by Mr Al Musallam.
If formed, the probe committee will look into five core pillars: investigating the effectiveness of administrative structures; validating there is no duplication or interference of roles; scrutinising job descriptions, seats and vacancies to ensure no saturation or emptiness, checking promotions, bonuses and allowances to ensure they are job related and deserved; and assessing the effect of employment charts on national state coffers.
“It is clear to everyone that the majority of the national state budget is directed towards financing wages, allowances, incentives and bonuses that civil servants get,” said Bloc spokesman MP Khalid Bu Onk.
“This why we need to check, validate, assess, scrutinise and review all related affairs to ensure that spending matches work levels,” he added.
“At the moment, we don’t know if there are saturated departments or departments with no employees or insufficient workforce.
“We believe this affects the effectiveness of employment structures in ministries and government bodies.”
He explained that when the national state budget is presented for review, it is mainly generalised without set details provided.
“The probe will help us identify if things are on the right course, needs improvement or should see massive reforms.”
