Inspirational teenagers who are voluntarily helping to renovate properties for needy families received a right royal boost for their endeavours with a VIP visit to treasure.
His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa turned up at the Muharraq building site to check on their progress.
The project, led by students of the Ibn Khuldoon National School, is having impressive results. “Young people have a pivotal role to play in the country and its establishment and renaissance,” said Shaikh Nasser, who was accompanied by SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
“It is important to promote such pioneering volunteer work as it empowers the youth, which is a big part of the vision of His Majesty King Hamad for the future of our country.
“I have a deep sense of pride in Bahraini youth for their diverse set of skills that have helped promote and enhance volunteering in the kingdom.”
The young volunteers are playing their part in a Team Nasser (Al bana’a) initiative. It was formed by the school’s students in 2021 with the aim of redesigning and fixing-up dilapidated houses and they also decided to ‘donate some of their leisure time’ to serve the community.
Part of the work has involved providing appropriate insulation against the winter rain storms that annually cause chaos and further deterioration to the old properties.
Students were repairing, restoring and furnishing houses for the families in Muharraq as part of the eighth edition of the initiative when they received a visit from their royal guests.
Shaikh Nasser added that he felt the project fully embodied the heritage and generosity of citizens. “The young Bahrainis appear to love volunteering for charitable and humanitarian endeavours,” he said.
“This is evidenced by the fact that this innovative project has been such a resounding success. It has not only preserved the dignity of needy families, but the good deeds of the young people have also left a lasting impression on their hearts and souls.
“These students have put in a lot of hard work which has enriched the lives of those around them.
“I’m proud of them, and I admire them for their humanitarian values, and I congratulate the remarkable efforts of the Ibn Khuldoon National School students for their support.”
Meanwhile, an institution that aims to develop the Team Nasser initiative by creating opportunities for job-seekers, especially young ones, is set to be launched soon in order to help them develop their skills and enhance employment opportunities.
