FUTSAL – Bahrain’s women’s futsal national team have been ranked 37th in the world, and number one in the GCC, in the first-ever edition of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Ranking.
The global classification for the indoor game was released on Friday by international football’s governing body.
The Bahrainis are on 962.22 ranking points and are the top squad amongst the ranked Gulf nations. Saudi Arabia follow in 51st with 899.62 ranking points, and the UAE are 55th on 885.35. Kuwait are 62nd on 863.43 points and Oman 67th with 848.46 ranking points. Qatar are not on the global chart.
Meanwhile, Bahrain are 13th amongst teams in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Thailand are currently the best continental squad, being ranked sixth in the world with 1,163.97 points. They are followed by Iran who are eighth with 1,146.96 points. Japan are third-best in the AFC and ninth in the world with 1,139.54 points.
Brazil are the top-ranked women’s futsal national team in the world with 1,364.75 points, followed by Spain on 1,302.33, Portugal on 1,266.33, and Argentina on 1,202.84.
In the ranking system, a team can win points by winning or drawing matches whereas it loses points when it is defeated in a match. The ranking of a team is deemed official when they have played one match against a team with an official ranking.
