FOOTBALL – AL Khaldiya maintained second position in the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League after defeating Al Najma 2-1 in their 20th-round match at the Muharraq Stadium last night.
Salaah Al Yahyaei put Khaldiya ahead in the 27th minute and Mohammed Abduljabbar extended the lead four minutes later as they led 2-0 at half-time.
Imran Abdulla scored for Najma in additional time to reduce the margin.
The defending champions ended their campaign with 39 points in the second place behind champions Muharraq, who have accumulated 47 points from 19 matches.
In another match last night, Sitra eased past Bahrain Club 2-0 at the Khalifa Sport City Stadium.
After a goalless first half, an own goal in the 58th minute put Sitra ahead and they extended their lead when Othman Al Haj found the net in the 63rd minute.
Meanwhile, Malkiya secured a 1-0 win over Manama at the Bahrain National Stadium. Issa Abd Al Wahab Al Berri scored the lone goal of the match in the 70th minute.
In the 20th-round matches to be played tonight, Muharraq face Al Ahli, Riffa take on Al Shabab and A’ali clash with East Riffa.
All matches are scheduled to kick off at 7pm.
