Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi has stressed the ministry’s keenness on afforestation in housing cities and increasing the green cover in all projects. She pointed out Bahrain’s plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 and achieve the 11th sustainable development goals for 2030 of making “cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.”
Speaking during the launch of the afforestation initiative of east Sitra housing project, Ms Al Romaihi affirmed the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry’s support for the national afforestation plan. She said increasing the green cover in east Sitra housing project is the second initiative after previously launching an afforestation plan in East Hidd.
The Housing and Urban Planning Ministry, in collaboration with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, has launched a new initiative while handing out the housing units in east Sitra, giving the beneficiaries saplings to plant in their homes, the minister added. She commended the great support and active participation of the GPIC in the afforestation efforts across the kingdom.
