Bahrain Diabetes Society is holding its summer activity for diabetic children and youth and their parents in co-operation with hotels in Bahrain.
The campaign is being held with the support of Supreme Council of Health chairman and Bahrain Diabetes Society board of directors chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
This year’s summer activity, which began ib July, was characterised by an awareness and entertainment programme based on the age of the child and youth.
Bahrain Diabetes Society board of directors vice chairman Dr Maryam Al Hajri pointed out that the most prominent objectives of the Society since its inception in 1989 is to provide educational programmes to raise the level of health awareness for diabetics in general and for children and their parents in particular.
Chairperson of the Shorouq Committee Dr Samia Al Qattan explained that the summer activity is an extension of the Shorouq camp for children with diabetes, which began more than 22 years ago and aims to educate children and their parents on how to coexist safely with diabetes, and work to raise their morale and self-confidence while using their free time for their benefit.
Dr Al-Qattan pointed out that this year’s summer activity targets more than 200 children with their parents from the age group of seven to 14 years, pointing out that the summer activity includes educational and recreational programmes.
