Nine pilgrims, called Kanwariyas, were fatally electrocuted and three sustained major injuries in India's Bihar when they came in contact with a high-tension wire.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday as their vehicle made contact with an overhead wire on their way to the temple, electrocuting everyone inside.
Further investigation into the incident suggested that the victims took an alternative route instead of the designated pilgrim route.
Authorities investigating the incident stated they would act if any negligence was found.
The injured individuals have been hospitalised and are now in stable condition.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
