PENTATHLON – BAHRAIN clinched the teams’ bronze medal in the 2024 World Military Pentathlon Championship, which came to a close on Saturday in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) military pentathlon team were represented by Sultan Alanezi, Zidan Alkhalaf, Khalaf Khasham, Ali Almulhem, Abdulrahman Ashreen, and Wesam Alsayyadi.
They took their place on the final teams’ classification after scoring 20,496.9 total points from all competitions, which included shooting, obstacle running, obstacle swimming, throwing, and cross country. Only the top five scorers were counted on the teams’ final standings.
Germany were the gold-medallists with 21,165.4 total points, while Austria took silver on 21,019.9 total points.
Amongst the BDF squad’s individual performances, Alanezi had 5,176.3 points, Alkhalaf finished with 5,146.8 points, Khasham had 5,103.3 points, Almulhem scored 5,070.5 points, and Ashreen posted 5,026.5 points.
Almulhem was the Bahraini team’s top scorer in shooting with 1,092.4 points, Ashreen had the best obstacle run score of 1,141.4 points, and Alanezi registered the top obstacle swim score of 1,074.4. Alanezi was also the top scorer in the throwing portion with 1,020.0 points, and Ashreen finished with 998.5 points as the best scorer in cross country.
As individual competitors, Alanezi was Bahrain’s top-ranked finisher from more than 50 participants in 12th overall. Alkhalaf came 15th, Khasham was 19th, Almulhem finished 21st, Ashreen 25th, and Alsayyadi was 36th with 4,879.3 total points.
The World Military Pentathlon Championship was organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
Nine teams from around the world that featured both men and women took part. Aside from the top three, the others were the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway, and Sweden.
