Teams participating in the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship and CIK-FIA Karting Junior World Championship have begun arriving in Bahrain to begin their final preparations ahead of the highly anticipated event.
The prestigious Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK) meeting takes place November 17 to 19 at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.
The karting will be a major part of the Bahrain Motorsport Festival, which is a first-of-its-kind international racing event hosted and organised by Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’.
Team members from several of the world’s top karting outfits are among those already in Bahrain. They have begun setting up and testing their racing machinery ahead of the highly competitive worlds.
The teams that are already in the kingdom are Birel ART, Formula K Racing Team, Tony Kart, Kosmic Racing, Ward Racing, Forza Racing, Ricciardo Kart Racing, Ricky Flynn Motorsport, Oman WMS Karting Team and X-Rei Motorsport.
Containers filled with team equipment have been shipped to Bahrain from Adria Karting Raceway in Italy. Teams were previously in Adria for the WSK Final Cup held last October.
At present, 148 karters from all over the world are provisionally entered to compete in Bahrain at the festival. Forty-eight are entered in the world championship, while the other 100 are in the junior world championship. Participants will be competing in OK and OK-Junior karts.
The drivers come from countries like Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, the UK, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Morocco, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, the US, the UAE and host nation Bahrain.
The world championship and junior world championship mark the third time that BIKC will be hosting a CIK-sanctioned world championship-level race. The first was in 2012 with the CIK-FIA U18 World Karting Championship and Academy Trophy, while in 2013 it was followed by the CIK-FIA World KF and KF Junior Championship.
The Bahrain Motorsport Festival will also feature the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and its final round of the 2016 season, the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain. There will also be action in a pair of highly renowned championships in support of the WEC at BIC, coming from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and the MRF Challenge.
Off the track, there will be plenty of attractions for the whole family with the Action-Ha entertainment programme. It will include a wide variety of shows for all ages, a car exhibition, a drifting performance, loads of kids’ activities, a series of live concerts featuring popular global and regional artists, and so much more.
