SHOWJUMPING – Interior Ministry rider Mayoof Al Rumaihi secured the Grand Prix title in the second event of the 2024-25 Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) Showjumping Championship season, riding his horse Calvados.
The event, held yesterday at the Military Sports Union arena, witnessed broad participation from local riders and stables.
Al Rumaihi won the Grand Prix title, the sixth competition in the advanced third-level category (qualifier for the jump-off round), with obstacles at heights of 140cm-145cm and a course speed of 350 metres per minute. He achieved first place with a time of 45.70 seconds.
Ministry of Interior teammate Hussain Mohammed Dadallah claimed second place with his horse Al Fateh in 50.78s, and then also took third with his second horse Verdi, clocking 45.70s with four faults.
Fourth place went to Sultan Al Rumaihi on Mithaq in 55.89s, while Al Rumaihi also claimed fifth place with his second horse, Ghayath, in 61.05s and four faults. Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) team rider Ahmed Mansour claimed sixth place with a time of 55.51s and 12 faults.
After the competitions, Huda Janahi from the BREEF showjumping committee presented the awards to the winners. She praised their performances, the efforts of their stables, and the organisers for the event’s success, noting the season’s promise of excellence based on past results.
Janahi thanked BREEF president Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for his support in advancing showjumping. She also thanked BREEF showjumping committee head Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and the committee members for their outstanding efforts, wishing all participants success in upcoming competitions.
In the first junior-level competition (jump-off round), featuring obstacle heights of 90cm-100cm and a course speed of 350 metres per minute, Hussain Al Asfoor claimed first place with his horse Sasha, completing the course in 26.31s. Sultan Al Rumaihi took second with his horse Shaheen in 26.81s, while Abdullah Khonji secured third place with his horse Mars in 27.12s. Fourth place went to Hussain Al Mandeel with his horse Gin Tonic in 29.48s, followed by Ali Hussain with his horse Emily Al Jazeera in 29.86s and Hanan Al Mahmeed with her horse Hope in 31.28s.
In the second junior-level competition (two-phase round) with obstacles set at 100cm-110cm, Sultan Al Rumaihi won first place with his horse Irish, finishing in 31.03s. Belle Carter, riding Mashaallah, took second place in 31.34s, followed by Al Mandeel with Gin Tonic in 31.49s. Ali Hussain secured fourth place with Emily Al Jazeera in 32.49s, while Zaid Al Harm came fifth with Golders in 32.87s. Ali Hussain also claimed sixth with his second horse Trimophy in 36.31s.
In the first general-level competition (two-phase round) with obstacles set at 100cm-110cm, Sultan Al Rumaihi riding Estoril claimed the victory with a time of 27.18s. Riders from the Ministry of Interior team dominated, securing the top six places. Mohammed Ali Radhi came second and third with his horses Golden Eyes and Brezza, completing the courses in 28.18s and 28.22s, respectively. Sultan Al Rumaihi placed fourth with Adonis in 28.23s, followed by Dadallah with Al Haddar in 28.30s. Mayoof Al Rumaihi was sixth on Lamitre in 28.32s.
In the second advanced-level competition (against the clock) with obstacles at 120cm, the Ministry of Interior riders maintained their dominance. Dadallah claimed first place on Al Haddar in 52.92s. Sayed Mohammed Khalaf took second place with Candy in 54.05s, followed by Sultan Al Rumaihi with Moqaddam in 55.90s. Badr Janahi placed fourth with Kazakzlina in 59.78s, while Hamad Fakrawi took fifth and sixth with Kakmazaki and Jackpot in 69.21s and 69.57s, respectively.
In the fifth competition (accumulator with joker) with obstacles set at 130cm, Dadallah showcased a strong performance, winning with his horse Al Fateh in 40.41s and 44 points. Ahmed Mansour from the Bahrain Defence Force team claimed second place on Konzola, also finishing in 40.41s with 44 points. Dadallah took third with his second horse Freddie in 40.78s with 44 points, followed by Sultan Al Rumaihi with Mithaq in 42.34s, also with 44 points. Mayoof Al Rumaihi secured fifth and sixth places with Calvados in 44.05s with 44 points and Ghayath in 48.70s with 43 points.
