Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has been honoured with the Best Arab Minister Award at a glittering ceremony at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The celebration was held to recognise winners of the Arab Government Excellence Awards under the patronage of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
It was attended by UAE Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Al Gergawi, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, and Arab ministers.
Shaikh Salman described the award as a tribute to Team Bahrain’s efforts and the result of the achievements brought about by the kingdom in various domains.
He stressed Team Bahrain’s keenness to carry out programmes aimed at boosting the comprehensive development march, led by His Majesty King Hamad with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister took pride in the prestigious honour, lauding the Arab Government Excellence Award initiative, which aims to promote the culture of institutional excellence and casts light on pioneering experiences in the Arab countries.
“The initiative contributes to enhancing the administrative performance and developing government work to serve the future of Arab citizens,” he said.
Shaikh Salman also celebrated Bahrain’s success as it won two more awards at the event – the Best Arab Government Project to Empower Young People for the Lamea programme, and the Best Arab Government Social Development Project for the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons initiative.
Launched in 2021 by His Majesty King Hamad’s Representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Lamea scheme aims to equip Bahraini youth with the skills and expertise to contribute to sustainable development.
The awards have been launched by the UAE government in partnership with the League of Arab States and the Arab Administrative Development Organisation.
