His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, deputised Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to lay the foundation stone for the Aluminium Downstream Industries Zone.
The ceremony, organised by the Industry and Commerce Ministry in Askar, was attended by ministers, officials, and industrial investors.
Shaikh Khalid emphasised that the launch of the project, coinciding with Bahrain’s National Day celebrations and the anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad’s accession, highlights the industrial sector’s contributions to Bahrain’s GDP for over five decades.
Shaikh Khalid highlighted the project as a strategic initiative aligned with government priorities to enhance Bahrain’s industrial infrastructure and cement its position as a regional leader in this sector.
He noted that the dedicated zone would strengthen Bahrain’s global position in aluminium-related industries by fostering public-private partnerships, promoting innovation, increasing productivity, and attracting investments.
The initiative also aligns with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 by supporting economic diversification, creating industrial job opportunities for citizens, and advancing the logistics sector, he added.
In his remarks, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro congratulated His Majesty and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister on the launch of the project.
He expressed gratitude to HRH Prince Salman for his patronage of the ceremony and to Shaikh Khalid for attending on his behalf.
The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to developing the industrial sector as a cornerstone of economic growth and sustainability.
The Aluminium Downstream Industries Zone, spanning 472,000 square metres, is a key component of Bahrain’s Industrial Strategy (2022–2026) and aims to enhance the kingdom’s aluminium industry, support innovation, and advance sustainability. The project is expected to be completed by late 2026.
