Strengthening Islamic unity and reinforcing dialogue among religious scholars on shared principles and challenges will be spotlighted at a major conference hosted by Bahrain today and tomorrow.
Held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, the Islamic Dialogue Conference will bring together more than 400 Islamic scholars, religious leaders and intellectuals representing well-reputed Islamic institutions from across the Islamic world.
The event, held under the theme ‘One Nation, One Shared Destiny’, is organised by Al Azhar Al Sharif, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), and the Muslim Council of Elders.
The audience will hold six sessions over two days to discuss vital religious issues including concepts, vision and approach, along with the role of religious scholars in achieving inter-doctrinal understanding.
Participants in the conference will highlight shared visions by all Muslims regardless of their doctrines, SCIA assistant secretary general Ahmed Mansour Hamada said.
“Difference is normal and we look forward to the conference as a milestone towards unity,” he added.
“Bahrain, thanks to its leadership, history, civilisational experience and characteristics of its people, is considered an ideal place for the conference,” he noted.
Muslim Council of Elders secretary general Mohammed Abdelsalam said holding the conference in Bahrain is dictated by a religious and human duty due to the exceptional challenges that require synergised efforts to re-empower the Islamic nation on the basis of mutual understanding and respect.
Al Azhar Al Sharif Grand Imam and Muslim Council of Elders chairman Dr Ahmed Al Tayyeb arrived in Bahrain yesterday to attend the conference.
