The International Criminal Court (ICC) has affirmed that its decisions are binding on all member states. This was in response to an invitation extended to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Germany.
In an official statement, the court clarified that “no state has the right to unilaterally determine the validity of its legal rulings,” emphasising the necessity of respecting and adhering to international justice standards.
Germany’s likely Chancellor Friedrich Merz earlier said that he had invited Netanyahu to visit the country and would find a way to enable him to do so without being arrested under the ICC’s arrest warrant.
Speaking at a Press conference a day after his conservative party secured the largest share of votes in the general elections, Merz said, “I believe the idea that the Israeli Prime Minister cannot visit Germany is completely absurd.”
