Mazad, a portfolio company of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, has launched an online auction for the sale and dismantlement of the Riffa Power Station (RPS) Phase 1 and its spare parts.
The auction, conducted on Mazad’s digital platform, has a starting bid of BD200,000 for the power station and BD50,000 for the spare parts.
Bidding closes on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 12 noon Bahrain time (0900 GMT).
Items included in the auction range from diesel fuel and turbines to motors and pumps, Mazad said.
The successful bidder will be responsible for the complete dismantling and removal of the power station, including obtaining necessary environmental and safety permits.
The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) said the auction represents a strategic step towards operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, aligning with national development goals and Bahrain’s Vision 2030.
Mazad’s chief executive Talal Al Araifi said the auction offers a significant opportunity for investors and contractors in the energy sector, with the company committed to a transparent and competitive process through its digital platform.
