US President Donald Trump has warned Israel that continued military operations in Gaza could jeopardise US support to it, according to sources from Al Arabiya and Al Hadath.
The US president gave Israel a choice between ending the war in Gaza or risking losing support by the US.
The American pressure to reach a deal in Gaza came after unprecedented pressure from Gulf countries, the sources said. They also stated that the recent US pressure is significant and clear, and Israel is now seeking to finalise a deal that may be the last one.
The sources noted growing tension within the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu due to Trump’s message regarding Gaza.
They also explained that direct negotiations are taking place between the US and Hamas, in parallel with indirect negotiations being held in Doha.
According to The Washington Post, citing an informed source, members of the Trump administration informed Israel that Washington would abandon Israel if it does not end the war in the Gaza Strip. The source said that the Israeli prime minister could end the war in Gaza and that he has the majority to do so if he wanted, but he lacks the political will.
“Trump’s pressure has increased in recent days, especially after Israel called up tens of thousands of reservists, escalated its bombing of Gaza, and approached the point of no return in the war,” the source added.
