CHESS – THE Indian School Bahrain (ISB) is set to host a two-day chess event in celebration of its Platinum Jubilee.
The ISB@75 Chess Championship will be held on Thursday and Friday at Jashanmal Auditorium in ISB’s Isa Town campus.
Organised under the patronage of the Bahrain Chess Federation and in association with Arjun’s Chess Academy (ACA), the championship aims to promote the intellectual spirit of the game while honouring 75 years of the ISB’s commitment to excellence in education.
The event will commence with a free chess workshop on Thursday open to all students and parents. Scheduled from 7pm to 8.30pm, the session will be conducted by expert coaches from ACA and will offer an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of chess, its benefits for cognitive development, and strategies to nurture chess learning at home.
On Friday, the spotlight will turn to competitive play with the Interschool Team Chess Championship beginning at 9am. This tournament will be held in two categories – the under-12 and under-19 – with schools invited to field multiple four-member teams. There is no entry fee for this segment, and all matches will follow Fide Rapid Rules using a Swiss league format.
Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top three teams in each category.
The celebration will culminate in an Open Rapid Chess Tournament, commencing at 3pm later that same day.
Open to chess players of all age groups, this segment will feature seven rounds of play, with a time control of 10 minutes plus three seconds per move. An entry fee of BD2 per player applies.
Attractive prizes will be awarded across various categories, and the top 10 players will receive recognition.
All rounds will be conducted in accordance with Fide guidelines.
The last date of registration for all categories is Wednesday.
