Shahram Akbarzadeh, Director of the Middle East Studies Forum of Australia's Deakin University, said on Sunday (June 22) the United States "has made itself a legitimate target of Iranian retaliation," after US forces struck Iran's three main nuclear sites.
"What that means is that the United States has now made itself a legitimate target of Iranian retaliation. Iran did warn the United States that attacks on Iranian territory would be an act of war, and under international law, Iran has the right to defend itself, and that means that all US assets in the region, the 40,000 US personnel and troops in the region have now become targets for potential Iranian reprisal."
Professor Shahram Akbarzadeh added that the strikes will affect the whole Middle East region.
US forces struck Iran's three main nuclear sites, President Donald Trump said late on Saturday (June 21), and he warned Tehran it would face more attacks if it did not agree to peace.
