FOOTBALL – European champions Paris St Germain moved into the knockout stage of the Club World Cup from Group B with a 2-0 victory over hosts Seattle Sounders yesterday.
The Ligue 1 winners, who suffered a shock defeat by Botafogo on Friday and were guaranteed a spot in the last 16 with a win over Seattle, scored in each half through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi.
With the result, PSG finished with six points from three games in the group stage.
Seattle, who needed to beat PSG by a margin of three goals or more to even stand a chance of progressing, exit the Club World Cup winless after three games played in their home stadium.
Earlier, a late strike from Antoine Griezmann handed Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Botafogo but the victory could not save the LaLiga side from a group stage exit.
Ilkay Gundogan scored two goals as Manchester City comfortably dispatched Emirati club Al-Ain 6-0 to ease into the knockout stage from Group G along with Juventus.
Juventus beat Wydad Casablanca 4-1 earlier.
