Saudi Arabia has banned small grocery stores from selling tobacco, dates, meats, vegetables, and fruit under a new regulation issued by Municipalities Minister Majed bin Abdullah Al Hogail.
The decision takes effect immediately; existing establishments have a six-month grace period.
Products that now fall under the prohibited categories for cold stores can be purchased only from supermarkets. Moreover, sale of meat will now require a separate licence.
