PARALYMPICS – THE Bahrain Paralympic Committee (BPC) held its ordinary general assembly for 2025, presided over by BPC president Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij Al Khalifa.
The gathering was attended by BPC board members and a number of sports figures and individuals interested in sports for those with impairments, aimed at strengthening its sports and administrative journey.
The assembly witnessed discussions on several important topics that support the BPC’s vision and future goals.
This assembly gained its importance from being a platform for a comprehensive review of the committee’s performance, where new members were elected to the board and Shaikh Mohamed was endorsed as BPC president.
Shaikh Mohamed affirmed the BPC’s readiness for the upcoming period, which includes prominent sports milestones, both in terms of participation in the Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, the West Asian Para Games in Muscat, and other sporting events, or through participation in regional and international championships.
He pointed out that the next phase requires more coordination, integrated efforts, and teamwork, which will enhance the committee’s readiness and its technical and administrative teams to achieve the best results.
Shaikh Mohamed indicated that the original general assembly represents an important station for evaluating performance and reviewing achievements made during the year, in addition to drawing a clear roadmap for the next phase.
This is to support the BPC’s goals of empowering Para athletes and achieving more successes in regional and international forums, based on the principles of transparency and collective participation.
During the assembly, BPC secretary general Ali Mohamed Al Majed chaired the election process, which included the endorsement of general assembly members: Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (Bahrain Cycling Association), Shaikh Sultan bin Duaij Al Khalifa (Bahrain Sports for the Disabled Federation), Noman Al Hassan (Bahrain Maritime Sports Association), Dr Sawsan Haji Taqawi (Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation), Ruqaya Al Ghasra (Bahrain Athletics Association), Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq (Bahrain Weightlifting Federation), Maryam Fouad Alshehab (Bahrain Deaf Sports Federation), and Fajar Al BinAli (Bahrain Combat Sports Council).
Al Majed stressed that the general assembly represents a vital platform for exchanging expertise and unifying efforts for the development of the Paralympic movement in the kingdom. He emphasised the importance of investing in competencies, expanding partnerships, and developing infrastructure in line with national goals.
BPC executive director of finance and administration Shaikh Ahmed bin Salman Al Khalifa also presented a proposed budget for 2026, within the framework of enhancing governance and financial transparency principles and preparing the necessary resources to support future initiatives and programmes efficiently and sustainably.
