CRICKET – BAHRAIN secured a commanding 46-run victory over Germany yesterday in the Quadrangular T20I Series in Malawi.
In a high-scoring encounter at the TCA Oval in the city of Blantyre, the nationals were in impressive form in the match.
Electing to bat first, they posted an imposing total of 207/2 in their 20 overs, spearheaded by a blistering century by Fiaz Ahmed and a quickfire knock from Sohail Ahmed.
Fiaz Ahmed was the star of the innings, smashing an unbeaten 105 off just 57 balls, including 10 fours and seven sixes. He was well-supported by Sohail Ahmed, who remained not out on 49 off 27 deliveries, as the duo propelled Bahrain past the 200-run mark.
Earlier, Prashant Kurup contributed a brisk 42 off 31 balls before falling to Germany’s Muslim Yar Ashraf, who was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/30 in his four overs.
In reply, Germany fought hard but could only manage 161/8 in their 20 overs.
Fayaz Khan (31 off 16) and Sajid Liaqat (30 off 21) provided some resistance, but regular wickets hampered their chase.
Rizwan Butt was the standout bowler for Bahrain, claiming 3/27, while captain Ahmer Bin Nasir and Imran Khan chipped in with two wickets each.
Bahrain are back in action in the competition today against hosts Malawi and tomorrow take on Tanzania. They then face Germany once again on Wednesday, Tanzania on Thursday, and Malawi on Saturday.
