BASKETBALL – THE all-Bahraini Seef 3x3 basketball team are set to compete against some top-quality opposition in a series of tune-up games this week ahead of their historic debut on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
The kingdom’s representatives are currently in Belgrade, Serbia, for an overseas training camp in preparation for their highly anticipated participation in the Orleans Challenger in France on Friday and Saturday.
They will become the first-ever squad made up completely of players from the kingdom to compete in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour – street basketball’s premier international series.
The Seef quartet of Sayed Mohammed Hameed, Sadeq Shukrallah, Hassan Fahad, and Nasser Al Mosawi will be playing a series of leading world tour teams in their friendly games. Among them are Ub, Liman, and Partizan, all from Serbia, along with the senior men’s and under-23 men’s national teams of Serbia. The contests will give the Bahraini outfit plenty of opportunity to gain high-level exposure before entering the international 3x3 arena.
Seef are training in Belgrade under the supervision of Serbian coach Bogdan Dragovic and Bahraini tactician Murtadha Mohammed. Their two-a-day training programme is being held at Partizan, one of Europe’s most renowned clubs.
In Orleans this weekend, there will be two Bahraini teams as Seef will be joined by Riffa – the kingdom’s seasoned Fiba 3x3 World Tour representatives who are predominantly made up of Belgian talents along with Bahraini star Mohammed Kowayed.
They are to be part of a 16-team field, with the other squads being Ub, Vienna from Austria, Carolina from Puerto Rico, Hangzhou from China, Marijampole Mantinga from Lithuania, Podebrady from the Czech Republic, Bucharest from Romania, Zurich Gutzwiller from Switzerland, Milan from Italy, Tbilisi from Georgia, and the French quartet of Toulouse, Bordeaux, Ermont Senef and Elancourt.
The Orleans Challenger acts as a qualifier for the Shenzhen Masters in China, scheduled for October 4 and 5 on this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
Following their French foray, Seef are scheduled to compete in their first-ever Masters event in Hong Kong on July 19 and 20.
