WEIGHTLIFTING – BAHRAIN’S Paris 2024 Olympics bronze-medallist Gor Minasyan was crowned overall champion yesterday in the International Tournament
Kakhi’s Cup 2025, held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Minasyan triumphed amongst a high-quality field that also included top lifters from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Armenia, Romania, Uzbekistan, and hosts Georgia.
Minasyan took first place with 446 points. His performance included an impressive 240kg effort in the clean and jerk,
which helped propel him to his title.
Taking the silver medal was Revaz Davitadze of Georgia with 443 points, while Isa Rustamov of Azerbaijan won the bronze with 442 points.
Completing the top eight in the final rankings were Louis Muniel Lauret Rodriguez (436pts) of Romania, Yusup Fehmi Gench (436pts) of Turkey, Dadash Dadashbaili (432kg) of Azerbaijan, Zurab Mskhaladze (431) of Georgia, and Rafik Harutiniani (427kg) of Armenia.
Minasyan was presented his gold medal by Georgian Weightlifting Federation president and three-time Olympic champion Lasha Talakhadze – one of the sport’s biggest superstars.
Attending yesterday’s competition with Minasyan were Bahrain Weightlifting Federation (BWF) president Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq and BWF official Tariq Al Bastaki.
