A reckless driver, who was this morning sentenced to six years in prison for vehicular manslaughter, has just been found guilty of possessing hashish, according to the Public Prosecution.
The Lower Criminal Court sentenced the 29-year-old Bahraini to three years in prison on drug charges in a separate trial, and fined him BD3,000, bringing the total penalty to nine years in prison.
After investigations revealed that had been under the influence of drugs when he caused the accident near Saar which killed three people, authorities searched his house, and narcotics were reportedly found.
Earlier today, the Lower Criminal Court’s seventh circuit found him guilty on eight charges, including causing the death of a couple and their son, and injuring their two surviving children.
The sentence is to be served immediately with no chance for bail. The judge ruled to suspend the defendant’s driver’s license for a year after he completes his sentence, and ordered that the vehicle be confiscated.
In a separate case, the Lower Criminal Court’s first circuit found him guilty of possessing narcotics for recreational use on the same day.
The GDN earlier reported that the accused’s vehicle collided head-on with a car in the opposite lane, severely wounding the Bahraini family of five, who were travelling to their home in Markh in the early hours of May 30.
The parents were rushed to the hospital, but died on the same day due to their critical injuries, and while their youngest son Abdulaziz died of his injuries two weeks later.
The collision not only injured, but also orphaned, the couple’s other children, Aya and Yousif.
